Ivermectin -- Works well, very well, on COVID

Since then (it’s now December 2020), I’ve started seeing more reports that Ivermectin is very useful against COVID, so this Mooster thread will have more such Ivermectin/COVID material added, below. – ThePythonicCow. ]

In order to treat an outbreak of scabies, a nursing home in Toronto happened to administer the drug Ivermectin to its patients just before the coronavirus outbreak started.

In late Feb 2020 or early March, they gave higher doses of Ivermectin to patients on the fourth floor of their building, where the scabies outbreak occurred, and in lower doses to patients on the third floor. They did not give Ivermectin to staff.

Then when the coronavirus outbreak came to their facility, the patients on the fourth floor had no cases of COVID-19, the patients on the third floor (who had a lower dose of Ivermectin) had a few mild cases, and the fourth floor had the most infected staff.

Notice that. Healthier, younger, staff on the fourth floor had the most cases of COVID-19, while the very patients for whom they were caring, who were old and sick with other diseases had no cases. The difference: the patients on the fourth floor had the strong dose of Ivermectin.

The woman telling us this had her mother in this facility. Her mother did die, apparently from lack of care, such as taking away her walker and not even providing her fluids to drink, as the staff was afraid to tend her, out of fear of getting COVID-19 themselves.

The health practitioner bringing us this story, Dr Jennifer Hibberd, was blocked from getting further information from the nursing home, when it apparently was told to stop allowing any of this to go public. Someone did not want the potential of an effective and inexpensive therapeutic, Ivermectin, to go public.

#Ivermectin Study Reveals Fantastic Results: 100% of 60 Patients Better in an Average of Just Under 6 Days: Recently, TrialSite News reported on a study sponsored in Bangladesh by Upazila Health & Family Planning Officer’s (UHFPO) Office, and, First Affiliated Hospital Xi’an Jiaotong University. The observational study was conducted from May 2 to June 5, 2020. The principal investigators observed 181 patients who tested positive for #COVID19. The Research team recently shared the results via preprint server and ResearchGate. The study team concluded that concerning the treatment outcome, adverse effect, and safety, the Ivermectin and #Doxycycline combination was superior to the use of #Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin therapy in the case of mild to moderate degree of COVID-19 patients. Although both treatment regimens were observed to be effective for this study, the Ivermectin treatment was superior.

• Ivermectin is an inhibitor of the COVID-19 causative virus (SARS-CoV-2) in vitro.
• A single treatment able to effect ~5000-fold reduction in virus at 48 h in cell culture.
• Ivermectin is FDA-approved for parasitic infections, and therefore has a potential for repurposing.
• Ivermectin is widely available, due to its inclusion on the WHO model list of essential medicines.


Although several clinical trials are now underway to test possible therapies, the worldwide response to the COVID-19 outbreak has been largely limited to monitoring/containment. We report here that Ivermectin, an FDA-approved anti-parasitic previously shown to have broad-spectrum anti-viral activity in vitro, is an inhibitor of the causative virus (SARS-CoV-2), with a single addition to Vero-hSLAM cells 2 h post infection with SARS-CoV-2 able to effect ~5000-fold reduction in viral RNA at 48 h. Ivermectin therefore warrants further investigation for possible benefits in humans.

One caveat on Ivermectin:

Pregnant and lactating women, those with meningitis, epileptics, and young children should not take Ivermectin. Those people (or their infants) don’t have an adequate blood brain barrier.

To summarize, Ivermectin interferes with a process inside the cells, that the COVID virus, and other some other viruses as well, abuse to shut down the cell’s viral defense. So, when Ivermectin is present in the cell, the attacking virus can’t shut down the cell’s viral defenses.

The half life of Ivermectin in the human body is about 57 hours (see the 37 minute mark in the above video), so just one dose, or perhaps two doses, a day or two apart, will have substantial effect over a few days, allowing the cell’s anti-viral defenses to function and successfully fend off the COVID virus. That is, with Ivermectin, COVID will be unable to shut down the cells viral defenses. This will usually substantially improve the health of a COVID infected person, over what it otherwise would have been.

The following video finds a second mechanism that Ivermectin might help with COVID.

In addition to blocking the virus from getting inside the cell’s nucleus (where it can suppress one’s immune response), Ivermectin might also block the virus from causing your red blood cells to clump, which is likely why severe COVID cases have so much tissue and organ damage, due to systemic oxygen deprivation.

Dr Been, starting at the 2:16 mark in the video below shows the therapeutic dose of Ivermectin (for humans, I presume ) to be 150 - 200 mcg/hg, which would be the same as the 200 mcg/kg for horses recommended on my package of Ivermectin. Dr Been then goes on to show a clinical trial in which Ivermectin worked well, with no side effects, at 20% to 25% above that range, one dose per day, for 3 days (with a note that doing Ivermectin for just 3 days even at 600 mcg/kg had no side effects).

At the 7:40 mark, it seems that Dr Been gets better results with Ivermectin than with HCQ

This is a powerful recommendation for the use of Ivermectin to treat and to stop the spread of COVID.

Here’s the entire two and a half hour hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on “Medical Response to COVID-19”, at which Dr Pierre Kory (in the above video) was speaking on Ivermectin.

Dr Kory’s part starts at about the 29 minute mark.

The opening statements of the Committee chair Ron Johnson (Republican) and the “Ranking member” Gary Peters (Democrat) are stunningly different. The chair is open to the repurposing of existing low cost medicines such as hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. The ranking member is viciously partisan, calling recommendations for such medicines unscientific conspiracy theories.

Dose: Single dose, one-time, of one-tenth one’s body weight in pounds (lbs), as marked on the blue plunger - for example a small pea’s worth for an adult. Full strength as marked on the plunger provides 200 mcg/kg, for anti-worm use in many animals and humans. Human anti-viral dosing seems sufficient at just one-tenth of that, 20 mcg/kg, but doses up to 200 mcg/kg work too.
